Who We Are – WealdBSL
Marcel Hirshman Limited was established in 2007, expanding our commitment to providing high-quality British Sign Language services and supporting greater accessibility for Deaf communities. As demand for high-quality, accessible learning grew, WealdBSL was established as an accredited centre in 2015.
Today, we deliver British Sign Language courses, Deaf awareness training and professional BSL translation services for individuals, businesses and organisations throughout the UK. As an accredited Signature centre, we offer recognised BSL qualifications for learners at all levels, helping people develop valuable communication skills and a deeper understanding of Deaf culture.
Our experienced Deaf-led team is passionate about promoting British Sign Language as a rich, expressive language and creating opportunities for Deaf and hearing people to connect. Alongside training, we provide culturally authentic BSL translation and accessibility support, ensuring information and services are accessible to Deaf audiences.

Meet The Team
Marcel
Managing Director | BSL Translator | Trainer | BSL Tutor
Marcel has over 25 years of experience as a British Sign Language (BSL) trainer and translator, working with public sector, charitable and private organisations across the UK to improve accessibility and inclusion for Deaf people.
His work has included live television interpretation, national public information campaigns and BSL translation services for a wide range of organisations. As Co-Founder of WealdBSL, Marcel is passionate about breaking down communication barriers and helping organisations create more inclusive environments through BSL training, translation and accessibility services. Whether working in the studio or delivering projects remotely, he is often joined by one of the family cats or dogs, keeping him company throughout the day.
Sophie
Creative Director | Co-ordinator
Sophie has extensive experience working within the Deaf community, including with RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf People), where she supported projects promoting accessibility and inclusion.
As Co-Founder of WealdBSL, Sophie plays a key role in the delivery of BSL courses, translation projects and organisational operations. She is passionate about creating inclusive opportunities and helping individuals and organisations improve communication through British Sign Language training, translation and accessibility services. She is often joined at her desk by the family’s cats and dogs, who like to keep a close eye on proceedings.

Our team includes a diverse group of skilled editors, videographers, autocue operators, studio coordinators, teachers, BSL translators, and BSL interpreters. Together, we bring extensive knowledge, professionalism, and a passion for effective communication, helping clients achieve their goals through precise language and expert support.
